biological anthropologist + science communicator

I’m a science writer and editor at the non-profit Research Triangle Institute (RTI International). I have a certificate in editing from the American Copy Editors Society/Poynter Institute and earned my PhD in Evolutionary Anthropology from Duke University, where I studied human anatomy and evolution. I’m also a Board Member and the web director of Science Communicators of North Carolina (SCONC).

My academic expertise lies in human anatomy, paleoanthropology, bioarchaeology, and evolutionary and organismal biology. Beyond academia, I make science accessible and interesting for diverse audiences, from participating in outreach events at museums and serving on panels to freelance writing and editing. My freelance writing appears in Scientific American, Massive Science, American Scientist, Lady Science/The New Inquiry, Duke Graduate School’s Professional Development Blog, and on various YouTube channels, including PBS Eons. Collectively, the YouTube videos I’ve written have been viewed over 16 million times.

I'm happy to chat about any topic related to my research, science communication, or careers beyond academia! I’m also available for select paid speaking, writing, and editing opportunities. If you have questions about the NSF INTERN program, see here.
